Dalene has been in the Financial Services sector for over 18 years and has held leadership positions in various SA-based banks (Absa, FNB and Mercantile Bank). In her current role, she heads up Private Banking & the Women’s Market at Mercantile Bank. She is responsible for growing these portfolios with the entrepreneur in mind. Mercantile Bank Private Bank is the first bank in South Africa that caters exclusively for entrepreneurs and has custom-built products for an entrepreneur’s personal & business banking needs. Whether it be borrowing, transacting or investing. The Women’s Market focuses on providing financial and non-financial support in order to help fast-track the growth of women-owned businesses.

Her role is multifaceted and involves a number of different areas of work including strategy development and execution (business, marketing, credit etc), product development, process design, value proposition development, pricing, competitor analysis amongst others. Her success is measured through new client acquisition, client satisfaction levels, financial performance of the portfolio, sound governance and cross-sell of business relationships. She is passionate about women’s development and growing entrepreneurs. To this end, she has published various articles and held radio and televisions interviews on the respective subjects.

She holds various qualifications including an International Executive Development programme in Investment Banking through the Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS) and BA (Hons) degree.

She is passionate about women’s development and mentors in her personal capacity. She is currently participating in the Business Woman’s Association of South Africa (BWASA) Mentorship programme as a mentor. Other mentorship programmes include the Gauteng Premier’s Young Women’s Development Programme, which involved mentorship of emerging entrepreneurs and young professionals.
