Maya Makanjee

Born in South Africa, Maya holds a Masters degree in Business Leadership (MBL) through the University of South Africa, graduating cum laude, and a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Natal in Durban. Maya completed her schooling in Durban, before spending four years at the University of Mumbai to complete a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Dance.

Maya is an independent non-executive director, and currently sits on the boards of Tiger Brands Limited, Mpact Limited, AIG South Limited, AIG Life South Africa Limited and the Nelson Mandela Foundation. She was also a director of Vodacom (Pty) Limited, the Chairman of the Vodacom Foundation South Africa, and also sat on the boards of Vodacom Foundation Tanzania and Vodacom Foundation Lesotho. Maya was on the board of Worldwide Fund for Nature for nine years, and retired from the board in November 2015. She has extensive experience in SADC countries, as well as some markets in Asia.

Maya has gained experience across a number of areas in various industries. She has held director positions in Financial Services, Human Resources, Marketing Communication, Corporate Affairs, Strategy and Business Reengineering.
